The last 60 days saw the field's centre of gravity shift toward open-weight, cross-embodiment models and toward the data infrastructure that feeds them. Xiaomi open-sourced its Xiaomi-Robotics-1 embodied-AI foundation model on August 5, 2026, following a July preview, and a steady stream of generalist policy models (Physical Intelligence's pi-0.7, ACE-Brain-0.5, Embodied-R1.5, Hy-embodied-0.5) is now being published and cross-cited in preprints. Capital is following: Physical Intelligence was among the largest robotics financings of Q2 2026.

Key findings

  • TechNode (Aug 5, 2026): Xiaomi open-sourced its embodied-AI foundation model Xiaomi-Robotics-1, first introduced in July as an 'out-of-the-box' model, with project website, GitHub and Hugging Face links.
  • Xiaomi-Robotics-1 was pretrained on more than 100,000 hours of UMI data and post-trained on more than 10,000 hours of cross-embodiment data.
  • Recent preprints show rapid iteration on generalist policies: Physical Intelligence's pi-0.7 is described as a steerable generalist robotic foundation model with emergent capabilities (arXiv:2604.15483), alongside ACE-Brain-0.5 (arXiv:2607.04426), Embodied-R1.5 (arXiv:2606.11324) and Hy-embodied-0.5 (arXiv:2604.07430).
  • A survey specifically on 'Robotic Foundation Models for Industrial Control' proposes a comprehensive readiness assessment framework, indicating the field is beginning to formalise technology-readiness evaluation for industrial deployment (arXiv:2603.06749).
  • PitchBook Q2 2026: Physical Intelligence was among the quarter's major robotics financings, and AI & autonomy platforms reached $7.7B in trailing-twelve-month funding. The strongest momentum is shifting to software rather than hardware.
  • TechNode (Aug 5, 2026): embodied-AI data infrastructure startup Kaiwang Data raised more than RMB 100 million, reflecting investment moving into the training-data layer.
