Tactile sensing has moved past the demonstration stage seen at CES 2026 and is now being adopted as standard equipment in commercial dexterous hands, particularly in China, where penetration in dexterous robotic hands is reported to have risen above 60% as of late 2026. Full-hand, dense multi-axis sensor coverage remains the technical direction, with vendors such as Ensuring Technology and XELA Robotics shipping integrated solutions, and semiconductor players such as Analog Devices developing multimodal tactile prototypes. The earlier characterization of tactile as having no commercial-scale supply is no longer an accurate description of the current market.

Key findings

  • A DIGITIMES report (dated 1 September 2026) states that Chinese leading dexterous-hand makers increasingly treat tactile sensing as a standard feature, with Chinese market research estimating tactile-sensor penetration in dexterous robotic hands has risen above 60%; tactile-glove demonstrations drew sustained crowds at the 2026 World Robot Conference.
  • The earlier claim that no production-volume tactile sensor array existed for humanoid hands (Q1 2026 components analysis) is now outdated as a description of current market availability.
  • At CES 2026, Ensuring Technology demonstrated a dexterous hand fully covered with Tacta sensors, with a single hand carrying 1,956 multi-dimensional tactile sensels across fingertips, finger pads and palm.
  • XELA Robotics exhibited at CES 2026 and announced integration of its uSkin tactile sensors into the Tesollo DG-5F five-fingered human-sized robotic hand, with sensing down to 0.1 gram-force and no change to the hand's original size.
  • Analog Devices (April 2026) is developing a multimodal tactile sensing prototype fusing pressure/force, temperature and other modalities in fingertips and palm, demonstrated in AI-driven cable manipulation at NVIDIA GTC 2026.
